The world of accelerator physics

The Department of Accelerator Physics (BP) is part of the Institute for Particle Acceleration and Electromagnetic Fields (TEMF). The focus of the department is on beam dynamics and the development of simulation methods for particle beams and their interaction with the accelerator components.

Our department is engaged in the development and application of computer models for intense particle beams. Since the models can only partially represent reality in an accelerator, verification of models through targeted experiments is crucial. These measurements are primarily carried out at the facilities of GSI and CERN.

There is a close collaboration between this department and the GSI Accelerator Physics department. Both groups are led by Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Oliver Boine-Frankenheim.
